Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how CValuate works, what we store, and where human judgment still matters. For packs and credit costs, see Pricing. Still stuck? Contact us or read the guides.

What is CValuate?
CValuate offers two analyses: CV Review (a standalone score and improvement plan for your CV) and Job Match (how well your CV fits a specific job description). Both use screening-style criteria and suggest line-by-line improvements so you can see what automated systems may flag before a recruiter reads your application.
Is CValuate free?
New accounts get 5 free credits — enough for one Simplistic CV Review (a quick scan). That is a first look, not the full Baseline or Advanced report. Baseline (12 credits), Advanced (20), and Job Match need a credit pack. No credit card is required to start. See the Pricing page for packs and what each model includes.
How does pricing work?
Analyses spend credits. You buy one-off credit packs (from £10 for 50 credits) via Stripe Checkout — not a subscription. Pack prices and typical run counts are listed on the Pricing page; signed-in users can also top up from Analyse.
Can I share my results without sharing my CV?
Yes. Share score publishes a privacy-safe score card (score, optional potential, keyword coverage, and generic focus areas). It does not include your name, CV text, or full report. Share full report is separate and shows the complete analysis to anyone with the link.
Will CValuate guarantee me an interview?
No. No honest tool can. Hiring depends on fit, timing, competition, and human judgment. CValuate improves how your CV presents evidence and matches role language, but it does not replace networking, interviews, or employer decisions.
How is CValuate different from a generic ChatGPT prompt?
CValuate is built around CV parsing, structured scoring, and job-description comparison with guardrails against inventing experience. A general chat model can rewrite prose but may hallucinate achievements or ignore ATS formatting issues unless you engineer careful prompts yourself.
Does CValuate store my CV?
Yes. When you run an analysis we store the CV you submitted (file or pasted text) with that analysis so you can review history later. You confirm this on the upload form. You can permanently delete any analysis, including the stored CV, from History. See our privacy policy for retention details.
What file formats do you support?
PDF, Word (.doc and .docx), and pasted resume text are supported. PDFs should be text-based, not scanned images. Complex multi-column layouts may parse imperfectly: the product will flag when structure could hurt screening.
Can I analyse my CV against a specific job description?
Yes — that is Job Match. Paste the job description and CValuate scores your suitability for that role, compares requirements coverage, highlights keyword gaps, and suggests tailored rewrites. For a full quality score and improvement plan without a job ad, use CV Review instead.
Is my data used to train AI models?
We do not use your CV content to train public foundation models. Check the current privacy policy for subprocessors and processing: we keep this explicit because CV data is sensitive.
How accurate is the ATS score?
The score is a structured estimate based on parsing, content quality, and — for Job Match — keyword and requirements alignment with a specific role. It is not a copy of any single employer's proprietary ATS. Treat it as a diagnostic baseline to improve over time, not a universal pass/fail grade.
Why did my score drop after I accepted a rewrite?
Scores can shift when you change length, keyword density, or section order. Sometimes a more honest bullet is shorter and temporarily lowers a keyword metric while improving recruiter readability. Compare trends on the same target role, not isolated edits.
Do recruiters know I used CValuate?
No. You export or copy your own CV. We do not watermark documents or notify employers. Use suggestions you can truthfully defend in an interview.
Can CValuate write my CV from scratch?
It is optimised for improving an existing CV and tailoring to roles. Starting from a blank page is possible but not the best use: a master CV with real history works better as input.
Does CValuate work for career changers?
Yes, especially with Job Match: paste a target job description and the tool highlights transferable skills phrased in the employer's language. You still need to frame narrative coherence, as software cannot invent relevant experience. Use CV Review first if you want to strengthen the document before targeting roles.
Is CValuate only for tech roles?
No. CV Review improves any CV on quality and clarity. Job Match helps whenever there is a written job description: operations, marketing, nursing, finance, and graduate programmes included.
How does CValuate handle employment gaps?
It will not auto-fill gaps with fiction. It can help you phrase freelance work, study, or caring responsibilities clearly and suggest where a brief, factual gap note belongs.
Can I use CValuate if English is not my first language?
Yes. Suggestions focus on clarity, standard UK/US business English phrasing, and keyword alignment. Review every rewrite: idioms and tone should still sound like you.
What is the difference between an ATS checker and a CV analyser?
ATS checkers often focus on formatting and keyword presence. Broader analysers (including CValuate) also critique bullet quality, summary focus, and fit to a specific job. See our comparison article for detail.
Should I still use a career coach?
Often yes, for strategy, negotiation, and accountability, especially for senior pivots. CValuate handles fast, repeatable CV mechanics; coaches handle context software cannot see. Many people use both.
How do I delete my account and data?
Delete individual analyses from History (you must type “delete” to confirm). To delete your account, use Clerk’s account settings or contact us: when your Clerk account is deleted we purge your local user record and all analyses, including stored CVs.
Who writes the CValuate blog and guides?
Our editorial team includes recruiters and engineers. Articles follow honesty guardrails: British English, no fabricated third-party statistics, and clear limits on what AI hiring tools can do.
Is CValuate affiliated with any employer or ATS vendor?
No. We are an independent product. We describe how screening software behaves in general terms; we do not have insider access to any single company's ranking algorithm.
How does the referral programme work?
From Refer in the product nav (or Gift a free analysis in your account menu), share your personal link or code. Friends who sign up get free starter credits and can get 10% off their first credit-pack purchase. When they complete that purchase, you receive free analysis credits equal to 20% of the credits in the pack they bought (rounded down). Recruit 10 paying referrals and you may unlock a one-time 100-credit bonus. Full rules are in our Terms of Service under Referral programme.
When do I get referral credits?
Referrer credits are added after your friend’s first successful credit purchase is paid and fulfilled — not when they only sign up or run a free analysis. Self-referrals and duplicate accounts do not qualify. We may withhold or reverse rewards if we detect abuse.
Does a referral code guarantee a discount?
No. Discounts and rewards are promotional and subject to eligibility, successful attribution before the first credit purchase, payment completing, and the programme remaining active. We can change or end the referral programme at any time. See the Referral programme section of our Terms.
Can teams or universities use CValuate?
We are exploring cohort and careers-service options. Email [email protected] with your use case and approximate volume (placeholder address until enterprise contact is live).
