What is Sourcing?
Sourcing is the proactive search for potential candidates — including passive job seekers not actively applying — using databases, networks, and search tools.
Sourcing happens before and alongside inbound applications. Recruiters run Boolean queries on LinkedIn, internal ATS archives, and talent pools to message people who never clicked 'apply'. Strong online profiles and keyword-rich CVs in public databases increase discoverability.
Inbound applicants still compete with sourced candidates who may skip early funnel stages. You cannot control sourcing strategy, but you can ensure that when recruiters find you — or when you apply — your materials are consistent and current.
Employee referrals are a form of human sourcing with high trust. They do not replace CV quality; referred candidates still enter ATS records in many firms.
Keep a master CV updated and tailor per role when applying. Cvaluate helps inbound applications stay competitive even when recruiters already have sourced alternates.
